Heroin

There have been so many instances in the media lately about parents overdosing on heroin with their children right next to them i.e. the two parents in the van in Ohio or the mom at the grocery store in Massachusetts. Yes, these are horrible occurrences that are happening in America and the "War on Drugs" is bullshit but I think capturing these events are breathtaking.

Taking photographs of people in the moment of shooting up, I think, is amazing especially when they are in black and white. It just adds something more to the photograph and to the story. I am not trying to convey that doing hard drugs are cool and addiction is one of the hardest things to overcome but taking the right photo at the right time can make all the difference in the world.

In the future, I would like to take more hell raising photos like that. Photographs that take your breath away and make you think. These photos are the real news in America that we are ignoring and I would like to be in the middle of capturing them all.

I've known people in the past who have done heroin, although they are not good friends of mine, I would still like to take a photo of them doing it. I'll probably never hang out with them again but if I do, I would enjoy having a photo of them shooting up.

I have a really good friend who does cocaine a lot. She's gone to rehab before and she's one of my best friends in the entire world. As I said above, addiction is one of the hardest things to overcome and I have witnessed that with her. Like heroin, I would like to take photographs of her and her friends doing coke. I want to be able to take intense photographs that evoke strong emotions.

Overall, both of these opportunities may be difficult to document because no one wants a photograph out there in the world of them doing drugs but people have done it before and I'll try.
